2015 – April NHS Meeting Highlights


Edible Flower/Herb of the Month – Nasturtiums
Ann Vidaver presents on NasturtiumsAt the April meeting we learned about nasturtiums from Ann Vidaver.
A few highlights:

  • If the soil is TOO rich they won’t flower”
  • Seed pods, flowers and young leaves are edible
  • Nasturtiums are high in vitamins A, C, and D
  • “Nasturtiums thrive on neglect.” – so if you think you don’t ahve agreen thumb,. try nasturtiums!

Bonnie presented details of the upcoming plant sale. Members signed up for work detail for the sale. After the presentations, members helped fill test tubes with herbal mixes for the sale and also made bath salts for the sale.

Upcoming NHS Bus Trip
NHS is sponsoring a one day bus trip to the Sawmill Hollow Aronia Berry Farm and the Loess Hills Lavender Farm in Missouri Valley, Iowa, on Tuesday, June 16. The bus will leave First Lutheran Church, 1551 So. 70th at 9:00 am, with a stop in Omaha, and return to Lincoln at 4:00 pm. NHS is paying a portion of the fees, so each member will pay only $53.00. The fee for nonmembers is $73.00.

There is still space on the bus if you would like to attend. (Flyer with details for June 16 Bus Trip) THE DEADLINE FOR SIGNING UP IS MAY 30.
